The Piece

Sometimes the shape of the wood just dictates what it is going to be. This is one of those. A beautiful piece of Walnut with a knot hole at one end that is completely natural and forms a perfect handle or hanging hole. The shape around it too is exactly as it was formed by the tree. It is perfectly sized for serving a family sharing platter and would make a wonderful centre piece for any dinner. I have flattened it, sanded it, branded it and finished it with a food safe mineral oil.

The Wood

This gorgeous piece of Walnut (Juglans Regia) comes from a tree that we were donated a number of years back after it was felled to make way for a house extension. I milled it, air dried it for a few years and recently kiln dried a few of the smaller pieces.
