The Piece

The wood really has done most of the work here. The thingummy is made from a single piece of bark that peeled away from the drying timber from the tree. It has been kiln dried and then one face levelled, the exterior has been sanded and finished and the interior finished with a treatment normally used to repair gilding.

The Wood

The tree that gave us this timber grew in the back garden of a very nice gentlemen who needed to have it felled to make way for an extension.  He loved the tree and felt bad about having it removed but a little better by donating it to us so that we could use it to reduce the use of virgin timber and help fund tree planting.  It grew outside the little village of Owlswick in Buckinghamshire.

The Size

The Thingummy is around 250mm x 200mm and 75mm tall
