A Pot Lyonnais. Traditionally used (when filled with wine) as part payment for silk workers in Lyon. Now a useful and attractive carafe with a tale to tell.
This is part of our Lost and Found collection, a range of vintage household items that we believe are as useful and stylish as they were when first they were created.
The Pot Lyonnais is a traditional carafe from Lyon. Originally silk workers were paid (partially hopefully) in bottles of wine. Suprise, suprise their employers worked out that refillable glass was cheaper than wine and the capacity of the bottle started to reduce down to what has beome the traditional 46cl. On the plus side they now make very lovely carafes for wine or water and thanks to the heavy base are a bit harder to knock over when they are empty.
Ours has been cleaned and sterilised inside and out and we have added a brand new cork.
The price includes free mainland UK delivery.
